Three Republican moderates—Sens. Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins of Maine and Sen. Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania—voted for the bill. But with Sen. Edward Kennedy (D., Mass) ill with cancer, Brown became the needed 60th vote, forcing him to shuttle back and forth between Washington and Ohio where his mother’s funeral is Saturday.

It seems like it would be worth it for the Club to announce that its goal is to defeat Snowe, Collins and Specter. All fund-raising will go towards that goal. Certainly, other Republicans in Congress may deserve to be kicked out as well, but these three could have stopped this disaster of epic proportions from becoming a reality. They must be held to account.
